Four Trailblazers to be honored by Georgia Women of Achievement

The Georgia Women of Achievement Board of Trustees will host its annual induction ceremony at Wesleyan College on March 11. The ceremony celebrates the lives and accomplishments of Georgia women who, in the past, are honored for setting the stage for Georgia women today. The four women being honored this year are the late Clarice Cross Bagwell, Katharine Du Pre Lumpkin, Juanita Daniel Marsh and Jean Elizabeth Geiser Wright.

First Cobb Country Resident to be Inducted into Georgia Women of Achievement Hall of Game

The late Jean Elisabeth Geiger Wright, a longtime east Cobb resident highly regarded as a pioneer and fighter for environmental conservation and animal rights in the county and the state, will be inducted at a ceremony in Macon in March. She is remembered by family and friends as a stubborn but beloved activist with a kind heart and a passion for education. She will join a distinguished list of honorees, including writers, journalists, educators, civil rights activists, nurses and even an American Revolution patriot.

Doctor, educator to be honored

Mary Dorothy Lyndon is one of two women being inducted into the Georgia Women of Achievement’s Hall of Fame. The annual ceremony, held at Wesleyan College in Macon, will feature Cathy Cox, dean and professor of law at Mercer University, as the keynote speaker. Also being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year is Dr. Leila Alice Daughtry Denmark, the Georgia pediatrician who conducted early research on the pertussis vaccine during the epidemic in the 1930s.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for March 7, 2018, at Pierce Chapel on the Wesleyan College campus in Macon, Georgia.

Pioneering Savannah teacher Susie King Taylor’s undertold story comes full circle

The day is just beginning at Susie King Taylor Community School. Parents lead their little ones — some with hearts painted on their cheeks, others sporting pink and red ribbons woven in their braids for Valentine’s Day — through the heavy front doors of the 112-year-old red brick building on the corner of Bull and 34th streets.
